I used no-ip to get a static IP to host a bbs server on telnet. However, I need to port forward. I can't, because I have a dynamic IP, and no IP just leads me to the dynamic IP, and I can't port forward my dynamic IP. It's late, sorry. I have a dynamic IP, and I need a port forwarded, static IP. Help?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

Hi .

I think you miss understand "IP" and portforwading.

NoIP gives you a DNS address. IE:myname.no-ip.com    You enter your dynamic IP on your Domain configuration on NoIP.

On your router you then perform the portforard.  so log in to your router via your browser use either  (192.168.0.1  or 192.168.1.1 ) one of those should work. and forward the requred port.

I think the issue your having here though is the DNS part.

NoIP allows you to setup a server to update NoIP with your public address so that the domain allways works.  heres the link:

Linux: http://www.noip.com/download?page=linux

Windows: http://www.noip.com/download?page=win

If you need help with port forwarding on your router give us the name of it and we can point you in the correct direction

Are you connected to a Wi-Fi Router by chance? VIA Wi-Fi or a LAN cable. You can log into it (default IP is usually 192.168.0.1 for most) and set up port forwarding through there. Its really simple and straight forward and if you cant figure it out there's 101 tutorials on YouTube. Maybe even some for your specific router. However if you want to do it through some program or website I have no experience in that field. I'd again suggest YouTube and also Google.

I have a Linksys wrt160n. I need to access my chat room via the IP that noip gave me, waggysroom.ddns.net, or my dynamic. How do I port forward those?

Hi here is the portforwarding guide for your router: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT160N/defaultguide.htm

You put the port number (im guessing 80) in the two first boxes. Protocol as Both,  And the IP of the computer that you are hosting the chat room off of. Then make sure the last box is ticked to enable it.  click save.

I found a video here fairly simmilar to what your looking to do.  This should help you out with the No-IP stuff and your router as the interfrace is allmost the same (linksys is a sub company of cisco)

Let us know if you need any spercific in depth guidance and ill try to descripbe it step by step for you.

running their software that makes my ip static, but it still is dynamic, and the ip hasn't changed, no matter how many times I run it. it still says i'm using my old ip, and that my ip is dynamic... What am I doing wrong? :(
