Hi guys, so what I am going to do get a new computer in the summer if I have the money saved up then or the winter when I will defiantly have the money. This computer will go with my gaming rig to do like cad and stuff for my engineering class, and word processing lots of word processing, and video editing/production so I would like it to run OSX because of how much Linus liked the Pages application and the cad and engineering stuff works better on Macs (so says the teacher who has a mac pro and power windows pc). What I am going to do is either get a Mac pro from 2009-2010 for 600-900 USD (I have found some for that cheap)and then later get some better drives and more ram for it because I also do quiet a bit of Adobe CC in my free time. The other route is to try and build a hackintosh for around the same price. Just interested in what you guys think.

Thanks, Will

Man I would build. Macs from 2010 are just outdated. If you need help designing a rig please let me know. Have you seen linus video on hackintosh??

Personally wouldn't use a mac just because they're over priced and if you're doing heavy rendering a $600 mac won't get you anywhere.

If it's just light usage, I guess so.

The ones that I am looking at have dual quad core xeon's at 3GHz and ok system memory  granted that the processors are from 5-6 years ago and it isn't so much heavy rendering just some school videos here and there and some game play.

Ok will you be able to string something together that can handle all the above mentioned stuff for about 600-900 usd if so than I'll just do that because I do like building my own systems.

Well any games and macs are terrible. but If it was me I would build because of these reason. Number 1 I could build a smaller rig than a mac. Number 2 better performance. Number 3 Price per performance leans toward a hackintosh. Watch linus video

Yea Man I would use Pc Picker or you can work with me or what ever.

I am just interested on what you would do because every time I go though tonymac build guide for a system with the power to do what I need it to do it comes out over my budget

Who'll for a start work out your budget and if your building a hacking is you won't have to buy an OS. Then do research into what your going to need and working out what parts you would need. For your case I would recommend a Xeon over an i5 as they have hyper threading which will help for CAD, editing, etc

It Won't Fail Cause of Me.
