Hi all, i was wondering if it is worth to buy a 7.1 surround head set.

Do they really simulate a decent 7.1 surround effect?

Thanks!

you don't need 7.1 headset....

2.0 channel will work just fine...

windows can convert 7.1 into bicameral  pretty well

I have the asus p8z77.

But as i said before, in all the review i saw and read the 7.1 sound comes from a driver and a hardware that is provided with the head sets.... so what does my mobo has anything to do with this?

No, it's not worth it.
Either a headset simulates 7.1 Sound via fancy software (which will most likely boil down to stereo) or it actually has the speakers built in. Then, however you run in a different problem: The speakers inside your headset will get smaller (in comparison to stereo) and therefore audio-quality can suffer.

Go for a good pair of standard-stereo Headphones + Mic and you'll have a good time.
