New 7950, need suggestions

After getting my RMA back from MSI, I have a MSI Twin Frozr III, OC Boost Edition 7950, wondering if there will be a bottleneck on a AMD A10-7700K@ 4.1. I know that the 860K/7850K/7700K have better single threaded performance, than the AM3+ SKU's, but by how much?

 

Also I believe that this is one of those 7950's with a 7970 reference PCB. So I can effectively get a 7970 by overclocking and flashing the bios.

  • I doubt you will be bottlenecked very much if at all. (citation needed by someone smarter with AMD)
  • I have a spare couple of 7950s and they are BEAST overclockers, i dont know if you can flash BIOS to get a 7970, make sure everything is correct BEFORE flashing!

the current quad core apu's compare to the old phenoms which ran 7970's all the time, shame noone remembers.
you'll be fine.
a phenom x4 at 4ghz would typically get a 100ish score in cinebench r15 while a 4.2ghz piledriver based apu will match it (and may still overclock a bit more) but the single core performance isnt going to be the limiting factor for the card the game, settings and resolution will be, i highly doubt a 7950 will ever be maxed out playing call of duty2 on low at 720p for instance,...bf4 at 1080p on high on the other hand....

Well if you're confident yor card is the correct one and your confident you will flash w/o bricking go for it!

I would do this only if i'm absolutely sure i have everything necessary

I like shadowplay and having spare cards to use as diagnostic tools for work.

2x 7950's is definitely faster than one 780 but with T&C. 

 

When they're both working properly. :P

2x 7950's is definitely faster than one 780 but with T&C.
