In my case, you don't, you get a time out for one week from competitive from not finishing the games.

So... From my understanding ranking up is dependent on score and wins. also if you kill someone with a higher rank than you enough, you'll likely rank up.

TLDR: Basically, it uses ELO which is a ranking system where it will get your exact details from a match and precisely place you in a skill group, you have to win many games to rank up.
