PSU Whine

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

One person on Newegg reported that the CX power supplies have coil whine when they're in standby mode.

Everytime I plug my computer into a wall outlet if it's switched on it whines until I turn on my computer.

It first started, or at least I first noticed, when I was at a friend's house for a LAN party.

When it happened then, it was his power strip, It whined no matter if my computer was on or not.. I assumed it was lack of power to my PSU/ the strip drawing too much power from the one outlet.

I plugged my computer straight into the free outlet on the wall below the where the strip was plugged into and it started to whine until on.

Now I notice it whine when the same way when plugged into my strip.. Which only has 2 Monitors and my computer (router and Modem on a separate strip just close enough to reach my ethernet cable)

And yet it still stops when I turn on my PC.

Specs are as follows:

  • CPU
    Intel i5 4670k 3.4Ghz OC to 4ghz
  • Motherboard
    MSI z87-g43 Gaming
  • RAM
    G.Skill 8Gb Sniper 1866
  • GPU
    MSI GTX980
  • Case
    HAF 922
  • Storage
    Kingston 120GB SSDnow, Hitatchi 400GB 7200RPM HDD, Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm
  • PSU
    Corsair CX600-600w
  • Display(s)
    2x Asus VS248H-P 24-Inch 1080p
  • Cooling
    Corsair H100i- Pull Config
  • Keyboard
    CMStorm QuickFire Rapid-i (Brown Keys)
  • Mouse
    Cyborg R.A.T. 9 (2.4Ghz Zero Latency Wireless)
  • Sound
    Corsair Vengence 1500/ Onboard
  • Operating System
    Win7 Ult 64-bit

Seems to be okay, it's been doing this for a while, back when I had a EVGA 550ti (ha).. Basically just wondering if I should buy a new PSU or if this is all good.  I feel like a 750W might be a good idea just so I'm not pushing my 600w so much.

The only thing I find weird about that is a couple of my friends have Corsair PSU's, 2 of them The same exact as mine (but newer version perhaps, still CX600) and one a GS600, and none of them have had this.. maybe it's only a handful of like every thousand or something.
