I need a laptop to run some software. I want it to be pretty cheap, have an i3 and most importantly I need it shipped to the US. Any suggestions?

a few questions.

Does it have to be an i3 specifically?

What's your price range/budget?

What software are you going to be running?

No, it doesn't have to ba an i3, bu in our testing an i3 gives the best results for the lowest price

The price range woluld be <500$

The software is a custom monitoring tool for HOTMAN

I found the Toshiba Satellite C855-S5194 on google shopping, that's going for about $488.

I would suggest the S855D-S5120 for consideration. it's a quad-core A10 APU that turbos to 3.2GHz (which should just about cover the lower IPC as it's an AMD chip) and goes for about the same price. (it also happens to be my laptop, so there's a little favouritism involved... it's damn fast, mind you.)

The Asus X551CA looks like a good basic option, that's at best buy (urgh...) for <$350 and has an i3-3217U. not bad, but pretty low compared to the other two which both score well over 3,000 on Passmark where this gets 2,200.
