Hey guys,

I recently bought a used XFX Radeon HD 6870 to throw in my system so I could render videos faster with OpenCL. (my gtx 970 doesn't have any kind of support in Sony Vegas) But since I don't use the 6870 for anything except rendering, it's idle 99% of the time.

My idle temps are hitting in the mid to high 40s, is this normal for this graphics card? I have a blower style gtx 970 and that idles in the mid 30s to put in comparison. I've replaced the thermal paste but that didn't solve anything. Any ideas?

my gtx 970 hits mid 40s durring regular internet browsing, and high 50s when playing LOL and other light games, mid 60s durring skyrim.

Load temperature is the important number to look at; personally, I like to stay below 85 celsius closer to 80.

That's quite good for the XFX 6870 actually. Buddy of mine has the same card and it's at 50 degrees just staring at the desktop.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's just that when I reapplied the thermal paste I saw how small of a cooler it had :P
