the build quality is only matched by filco but ducky has a few features like backlighting and pretty much every cherry MX switch. but yes they are that good.

I personally own the Ducky Shine 2 with MX blues. The keyboard has amazing build quality and feels very nice to type on, a wrist rest is almost required though. (Ducky have their own wrist rests that you can buy).

But honestly, a Steelseries 6Gv2 and a Quickfire Rapid keyboard will do just as well as the Ducky. I see the Ducky keyboards as more of a "premium" keyboard.

If I remember correctly, the Quickfire Rapid has the same OEM as Filco.

I am typing this on a Shine II with Cherry MX Blue. It's the most awesome keyboard I had the pleasure to type on. I have tried many different keyboards, some were good, some were bad, but none of them has matched Ducky's quality and feel even remotely.

One of the marks of a better built KB is the key caps, many neglect this point (including myself at times). I have the two DS II's and a G2 Pro TKL, one thing about them is the key caps....they are of better quality and more resilient than, say, the key caps on Cooler Master mech KB's. The key caps on my Storm Trigger is shiny already, after just months of usage. I've been using both of my DS II's and the key caps are in immaculate condition. Yes, the Trigger was my first mech KB, but I had gotten the DS II 78 Version not long after it, used it and swapped the key caps....I'm not surprised they look brand new. The quality of the key caps on the CM KB's leaves much to be desired, I'm really quite disappointed with how quickly it developed this shine.....

Do take note of the condition of the key caps of your CM KB's, I've just begun to really use my QF TK, and I'm going to note how long they go before developing a shine. Only other KB maker that I'd say has equal build quality to Ducky is Filco.

Cheers guys, I appreciate it. A lot of you have blue switches, is there any reason? Sadly there aren't many places near me that have mechanical keyboards, or at least not a wide selection. Friends have said to go for red as they're quieter and easier to use. I've been tempted to buy a basic kit online and just try out a few switches to see which i like

I may have to get myself a year of the snake edition or maybe wait for the shine 3

Really? I use mine without a wrist rest and i type and game. Never really liked wrist rests though.

Many people complain about the stabilizers on the board because of the fact that they use Cherry Stabilizers rather than Costar stabilizers (which is used in keyboards more common). The different stabilizers feel weird at first but they seem to break in after a day or two of use. I actually am preferring the Cherry stabilizers over the costar now. But if you want costar stabilizers and the same build quality, go Filco.

Agreed that it's a personal thing. I started out with Red, then Black, then Blue, Brown and Green.....I like 'em all actually! Hence, my ever growing collection of mech KB's.....including a buckling spring Lexmark Model M (will never sell it as typing on it is a pleasure). Hence, my going grren with one of my KB's as it is the closest in feel to the Model M.....though I'd like to try a full Cherry White/Clear KB.

Not had the chance to try green switches so far, was tempted to get a Razer Orbweaver Elite Mechanical USB Gaming Keypad but the price was on the wrong side of £100 and also am not that mad about Razer product's, don't like their mice or headsets, keyboards are just ok.

If your unwilling or just can't spend the money that you need for a Ducky you could try the new Corsair Vengeance keyboard K70 that come in Blue & Brown Cherry MX switches, and fully mechanical keyboard.

Linus as made a few video's about different mechanical keyboard's just need to check out youtube and see what you can find.

They are also going to release a backlit version of it, I don't think that it has been told when it is planned to be released though. But that should be good if you want a budget backlit keyboard.
