My question is which GPU is the best one for Sony Vegas 13, I have a gtx 980 but unfortunately Sony Vegas doesn't support maxwell yet. That's quite a bit annoying because previously I had a gtx 780 with an i7 4770k and know my render times jumped up even though I upgraded to a 3930K and the new gtx 980.. many people say that the gtx 580 is the best one for rendering in AVC since it's the last one that is really beeing supported if you turn on GPU acceleration. Of course I must look at the pricing aswell since I only look for a card to speed up rendering so a TITAN Black and such are not a solution.

Nvidia GTX for their CUDA.

or Nvidia Quadro if you have the money for their better workstation class drivers.

not exactly helpful since not all CUDA cards are supported by vegas

Well if I had that money for a decent quadro I'ld be getting one ;D.. unfotunately I don't cause I'm only looking for a good gpu that is beeing supported by sony vegas while keeping my little 980.. so it will be only be used as a dedicated render card or physiX card

Good? GTX 780.

Better? Uhhhh.. An i7 along with a GTX Titan for extra rendering speed.

Decent? i7 again with a GTX 680 or 770 or 970 or 660 Ti.

Why i7? Because it's cores can be useful when rendering, they help it go quicker.

Why do people never read my specific comment and only read the headline, then asnswer? That's nothing negative on you it's just a bit annoying.. well the 770 isn't supported by Sony Vegas AT ALL.. in fact a lot of GTX's are not supported by sony vegas and as said before I'm looking for a relatively cheap option since I already have a gtx 980 and a 3930k (6 cores/ 12 Threads) so a titan and such are not a solution. I've heard that the gtx 580 is the best for Vegas since it's the last card that is fully supported by Sony's AVC codec.

Don't know what you're talking about.. but a GTX 780 Ti.. works with Sony Vegas.

I know but I'm not willing to buy a 400-500€ 780 ti when I already have a faster 980 in my rig. The GPU will only be used for Sony Vegas to shorten my render times because previously I had an i7 4770K and a GTX 780 my render times were really fast and know where I got a 6 Core i7 my render times made a HUGE jump because Vegas doesn't support Maxwell. I find it a bit annoying to wait longer for videos to render that's why I'm asking wich old GTX card is the best for Sony Vegas since officially no card above the gtx 580 is supported by sony vegas.

Why has no one mentioned AMD's card for OpenCL, my R9 290 works quite well in Vegas last I checked

That's what I meant... please read the first thing I've writed.. but to answer it short AMD cards won't work since I don't want to dual OS my system (running 980)

 I edited my post.

You asked what the best card was, it's the 290/290x.  Below that way down in the list is the Titan and 780.  You never said you didn't want to go AMD

Any reason you want to stick with Vegas? If you tried down the Premiere Pro route you'd love the renders times! And +1 for having a 3930K Rig. Nice to see Our numbers are growing!

Unfortunatly Premiere Pro doesn't support maxwell either or at least it seems like that. I've used gpu acceleration in Pro but it was only a margin faster than Vegas and Vegas beeing only rendered with CPU only :(. Thanks! I love my 3930k :D

Really?! Just looking around apparently they offer worse performance in Premiere than a 780 does. How strange.

I grabbed mine off ebay for an absolute steal! Built the whole rig cheaper than a 4770K rig at the time. What deal you get on yours?

Read it...please be more clear in your OP that you only wanted nVidia suggestions.  Sure you only mentioned nVidia cards you have but that means nothing when the question is what is best.  You best NVIDIA option is the 780 or Titan

Yeah Maxwell gives the rendering world big trouble :/..

Well, I got mine used (it was 6 Months old), the rampage IV extreme, 16GB of ram AND the asus stx essence sound card for just a playstation 3, 2 controllers and 10 games!! I basically payed 150€ for the CPU, MOBO, RAM and soundcard xD

If you read a few comments of mine it's clear.. but nevermind lol.. you tried to help so thanks it's just most of the people didn't read what I writed and that's quite annoying when a few people say "780, Titan" etc when such cards are clearly not an option.

I dont know if its compatabile but something like a 280x will be very fast if vegas supports opencl.

Also, if you want ill send you over my 580 for your 980 :P

I hate you, I payed more than that just for my CPU...  :(

Off topic but I can't even use Photoshop CS6 or higher on my 290 it just crashes(CS5 still gives me errors but doesn't crash), so there is that.  If you also use PS as well, don't get an AMD(even though that was never an option)

Thanks for that tip, yeah I think premiere prefers CUDA rather than OpenCL.. anyways I'm disapointed with the 980 I thought my render times will decrease by at least 20-30% cause in PS CUDA doesn't really do anything.. that maxwell :(
