Google Sketchup, Blender, 3DS MAX (Student edition is free)

 

 

this guy knows what he is talking about

not really. if you plan on having it cut and assembled (not just messing around) its better to learn solidworks/inventor. 3ds max and blender are far too complicated for too little gain if you are only messing about. for that there is sketch up :)

I jumped in to 3DS Max three years ago, with no prior experience in 3D modelling. There are so many tutorials it's really easy to learn if you want to put in the effort. Like you say, if time is of the essence then Sketchup is a much better option.

 

As for cutting the case out? I doubt the OP plans on that just yet?!

He implied it though, hence better to recommend CAD programs for that. and yes there is a bunch of tutorials for max, but it still takes time to master it :) ive been using it for 7 years now(4 professionally) and i still learn new things every now and then :D

he said free solidworks is not free. And I'm guessing inventor isnt

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

inventor is for students. solidworks as well. ;) or one can pirate
