Does anyone know if it is possible to narrow down the performance difference due to the CUDA cores on nvidia's cards, since that is one of the biggest differences between the x70 and x80 cards.

I am curious because that could be a big part in figuring out which card to pick for people.

Hard to tell really. The only cards that the performance comes down to the CUDA core amount is on the 980 vs 970 (2048/1664 respectively). With the different architectures, bus width, memory speeds etc. I will be very hard to find out the CUDA core performance on each card. Could be possible?!?! maybe...
