Help i dont get it!
The Titan is based on nVidia's GK110 chip with the Kepler architecture. You can't compare specs of the GK110 and the GTX980 which is based on nVidia's new Maxwell architecture with the performance GM204 chip 1 to 1.
Maxwell has a new way more efficient architecture and is a huge benefit in terms of power consumption, and OC ability. The factor from Kepler Cuda to Maxwell Cuda is 1.4. So that means the Maxwell GM204 with its 2048 M Cuda is in Kepler's world 2048 x 1.4.
Another important thing to understand is, that the Maxwell gen has a different L2 cache of 2 MB. Kepler 104 has 512bit and Kepler 110 has 1.5MB. That means the card doesn't struggle with memory bandwidth so fast in higher resolutions. Keep in mind a Titan Black still has 6GB GDDR5 VRAM buffer and will not struggle either due to its 384bit memory interface BUT the GTX780Ti which is pretty much the same just doesn't have thge full unlocked double precision and just 3GB GDDR5 VRAM struggles to death in 4K once the memory buffer is full.
The Titan Black is a card for semi professional content creators. Like written before it has the full double precision enabled and the 6GB GDDR5 VRAM ensure that content creators don't run into bottlenecks VRAM wise.
Gaming wise I'd always buy nowadays a GTX980 over any Titan Black because especially the GTX980s are made for resolutions above 1080p and Kepler was originally designed for 1080p and the Titan Black is way more expensive and not as fast as the GTX980.
wow
