CPU/GPU help

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

I5 is overkill, 750 is awful for gaming.

I'd agree with salecar6 and advise you get a FX6300 and R9 280.

Or you could get a Pentium G3852 and a Haswell refresh motherboard along with a 280x. This would allow you to upgrade to a more powerful CPU easily.

So im helping my friend build his first pc, and i need a cpu and gpu with them put together not exceeding $300. As i did this on my lunch break at work i just threw together a i5 4430 and GTX 750. Any suggestions as to a better combo for the money? This build is strictly for gaming, nothing else, so i need the best gaming combo i can without exceeding the budget for the two.

I probably shouldve mentioned the motherboard is the one i have now, im swapping mine anyways and giving him mine. So its an Asus z87 Plus LGA1150.

My latter option will wok then.

The dual core Pentium and a 280/280x.

To get the most out of the Pentium get an aftermarket cooler and overclock the heck out of it. The LGA 1150 socket will allow you to upgrade to a better CPU much more easily and buy something powerful such as a 4690k.

Yeah i thought about the Pentium as well, just didnt know if he would want to oc or not. but the 280(x) is definitely an upgrade. Ive never really looked into anything other then NVIDIA and Intel as thats what i use.
