Windows 8 problem

Ok so I just finished building my new pc and tried to install Windows 8 (USB boot drive) I typed in the product key and clicked next shortly after I realized I did not have my SDD plugged in and needed to install it as the first drive after doing that I reset my pc and tried to reinstall and now my product key will not work.. Is there anyway I can fix this :/

call microsoft support and tell them you need your system builder/OEM key reactivated.

or try again. I've never actually had it not work on the same machine when swapping drives, but I haven't done a reinstall from scratch with windows 8 yet, just windows 7
