I need new headphones, seeing as mine have just broke... I play games, listen to music, and browse the internet, that's about it. Please keep the suggestions under $300.

Thanks.

I know this is super overdone, but the ATH-M50s.  They're super great.  Or, if you want better, the Grado SR80i's.  Sound quality on those things is incredible.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x are a really good set of cans

He said under $300 and you recommend something a third of his budget? :/

I also recommended the SR80i's which are 2 thirds of his budget.  Keep in mind that you don't need to blow a ton of money for great audio quality.

Do you like open or closed? Lean more towards the highs or the lows? Fixed cable or detachable? High or low impedance? I just want to get some reference. It just narrows down the list and gets you something you would have a higher chance of loving.

I agree.  More information would be helpful to make good recommendations.  What will you be powering them with?

I love the M50 but with $300 to spend...  I REALLY want to hear the X2!  But that's just me.

Extend your budget a bit and get fidelio x2, you wont regret it

Have you had a chance to try the X2 critically, compared to your HD600, or perhaps the AKG 7 family?  I'm very interested in the X2 myself.

For some reason the first thing I saw when I searched were the SR80e's which are $100. Thanks Obama Google.

Are these any good? I noticed that someone mentioned the 702's, but I think $300 might be a little much. http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Signature-Reference-Class-Premium-Headphones/dp/B004444O3W/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1420754980&sr=1-2&keywords=akg+q701

You pretty much can't go wrong with AKG's.  My friend's uncle works for them, and he gets a new pair every 2 years or so, they all sound fantastic.

They are open backed AKG, similar to the Q701 and the K701.  I used to own the K701 and liked them a lot, although some say they are shy in "bass" and/or the treble is too "bright".  The K702, the newer model, has a flat head band which is a relief to those of us that found the bumps on the original K701 (and the Q701) painful for extended listening sessions.  The Q701 is said to have improved the bass response over the K701 but again, has a bumpy headband which you might end up not likely (can be modded).  Both the Q701 and K702 have detachable, interchangeable cables.

The K612 is said to have even more bass than any of those previous models and does have the flat headband.  It does NOT however have interchangeable cables.  All of them have their fans!

Note that most of the AKG open backed headphones will likely benefit from using a separate amp and/or dac, to get the sound they are fully capable of.

Havent tried them yet. I would expect however based on its FR, for it to be easily liked. Personally i prefer AKG house sound over sennheiser's

From their website:  "70mW 32ohm per channel"  The rest of their specifications are not clearly posted.

That's not a lot of power for any "serious" headphone but  I don't think you would hurt anything by trying it.  If it sounds good to you, great.

So they are  good all round headphones and I won't be upset when I get them?

I can only tell you what I like, as I don't have your ears or likely the same taste in music/games.   :)

When it comes to the middle shelf of the headphone world (headphones made for listening, not those sold as "gamer" headsets, etc.) people speak of AKG, Sennheiser, etc. "house sound".  They both make good headphones and both sound good but rarely have I read reviews from people that liked both brands equally.  Some people like AKG, some like Senn, some like Beyer, HiFiman, Ultrasone, Audio Technica, Philips, etc.  Any headphone in this crowd at that price level should be all in all, pretty damn good.  If you end up preferring one over the other is left for you to discover.
