Hello all,

I am thinking of getting my brother a new computer.

He already has a monitor, keyboard, mouse and 1TB WD Black SATA 3.

Resolution: 1920 x 1080.

Budget: 1700€ (that is the limit, but if it is necessary and worthwhile, then this can be slightly larger).

Games played: Watch Dogs, APB reloaded, games from steam sales, GTA V (if it comes to PC), Need for speed, in other words, any game in the near future to be maxed out (or near that) at 1080p for the next couple of years.

The Problem: What bothers me is that if I buy something now, then it will be rather outdated next year, since the GTX 700 series is a rebrand. I mean, if it is better to hold out, then there is no problem with that. I just want my brother to have something better than what I have, and I would like to ask if there is a large difference between in the next gen especially with HD 8000 series coming out in September, and will the smaller die size help in anyway with performance?

Anyway, I would also like to water cool this computer. It would be my first watercooling attempt and my brother wants a silent computer.

Shops to buy from:

www.alza.sk

www.tichepc.sk (watercooling stuff)

Thanks in advance,

A.T.

So the list so far:

CPU: i5 3570k - 209.98€

MB: GIGABYTE G1.Sniper M3 - 135.48€

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1866MHz - 65.69€

GPU: MSI GTX 780 - 621.13€ (if I decide to watercool, if not then something from gigabyte with that sweet cooler)

PSU: Corsair AX760i - 177.70€

SSD: Crucial M4 256GB - 191.70€

Case: Corsair 350D - 94.86€

Total so far: 1496.51€

And also a CPU cooler. I have bad experience with AIO water cooling sets like the Corsair H100.

I think that the PSU is a bit too much, so maybe some alternatives? The AX non-i are not available for one reason or another.

The price of the case has almost nothing to do with space for watercooling, for that price point i'd recommend an Define r4 or a storm scout 2, and for cpu cooler the NH-D14 will be great.

Stuff I have I like: Moto G - Superlux HD681 Evo - Monoprice 9927

90% of what I say is sarcasm.

So lets talk about watercooling the CPU. I will be buying from this shop: www.tichepc.sk
I am looking for something that isn't too expensive. I don't think I will be cooling the GPU, but I would like enough headroom to be able to do so in the future.

I might try the H100i, but I will have to change the GPU. Is the ACX cooler any good? I am looking for the most silent option.

One option is the Gigabyte card with the custom cooler"http://www.alza.sk/gigabyte-n780oc-3gd-d433817.htm">http://www.alza.sk/gigabyte-n780oc-3gd-d433817.htm
and the other is EVGA's "http://www.alza.sk/evga-geforce-gtx780-superclocked-acx-d433041.htm">http://www.alza.sk/evga-geforce-gtx780-superclocked-acx-d433041.htm

As this is a Linus forum, I need to ask about noctua fans. So which 140mm should go on the rear?

And which two 120mm should be in the front, and which two should be used for the H100i?

hi, yes the PSU is a little high, you can save some euros on that, 50€ too, buying something like a corsair hx650 gold or something from cooler master (the hydro series seems to be really cool), or you can go on a seasonic 650 gold, 140-150€.

for the cpu cooler is up to you, depending on how much you want to overclock. I've got a noctua with two 92mm fans, 50-60€, and i'm really happy, i run it with the l.n.a. on my 3550 @ 3.9 GHz (4.1 turbo) and even in these hot days i never saw it go over 65°C, and is really silent.

Because you have a 3570k, a nh-d14 will be great  :) and it costs 30€ less thant the 100i, but you must check the compatibility with the case, is really high and your case small.

GPU: remember that gigabyte cooler solutions are quite loud.

fans: for the rear, I just checked on their site, there's only a serie for the 140mm, called NF-A, they are almost all the same, with differences like PWM or not, something like that. If you will end buying a 120mm, you should use the airflow optimized (NF-S or NF-F series) and pressure optimized for the cooler and the front (NF-P), that's because the 350D has not a free and open front for the fans, so the airflow optimized will not work properly.

Hope it helps  :)

Ram: Corsair Vengance Red 2x4 GB 1600 MHz CL8; Heatsink: Noctua NH-U9B; Power supply: Corsair HX750 W 80 Plus Gold; Storage: SSD Vertex 3 120 GB +2 HDD Wester Digital 1 TB

I don't like the fan colour of the Noctuas on the NH-D14, which is why I don't like the cooler, and since it takes up a lot of space, it will be the first thing you see when you look inside. But I will give it a shot. I will get the H100i and if that doesn't work out I can return it and get the noctua. EDIT: They don't sell the Seasonic gold in the preferred shop. They do however sell the HX650. Regarding the GPU cooler, is the ACX better? So this fan for the NF-A 14s, right: http://www.alza.sk/noctua-nf-a14-uln-d395092.htm BTW, what is the difference between NF-F and NF-S? There are two NF-Ps, this one and this one

TichePC is in Kosice, which is further away for me. I prefer alza due to its close proximity as it is in Bratislava.

I live in Bratislava myself. The shipping from them is ridiculous, I know. But they have a lot more PSU's to choose from and with a budget like this, you shoudln't limit yourself to alza. Also, gigastore.sk is a retailer with great reputation and they have really good prices. Found a GTX770 gaming from Msi over there for 352€ and the Windforce one for about 370€.

I am going to go with the NH-D14.

But I am unsure about the fan setup for the case and cooler. Are the fans on the NH-D14 good or would they need replacing? And what about for the top of the 350D? Should I use the A series for that? And should I use the ULN or the FLX? I am looking for a quiet solution.
