Hi, I am helping a friend look for a new laptop and thought I would ask on here for suggestions as well.

Their requirements are:

Good audio

Good visuals (1080p is possible though I know pretty much no laptops at this budget provide that)

'Can be used on lap' so good cooling I'd assume so it doesn't burn them

Good build quality and relatively future proof so they don't have to replace it for, lets say 5 years.

It won't be used for gaming, if it is nothing high end, we are talking Minecraft territory. Would be used for web browsing, photo editing, watching films etc.

Their budget is between £300 - £600 so it is quite a large range, obviously looking to save money where possible.

The laptop I have found so far which I think meets these (though doesnt have a 1080p screen :( ) is this one: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-aspire-v3-572-15-6-laptop-silver-10071652-pdt.html#cat-0

To anyone who wants to help in the US (firstly thanks) but can you provide suggestions from Currys, PC World or Amazon UK or other UK retailers, a lot of the time someone will post something of Amazon.com that's $700 and say 'well that converts to about £500' that simply is not the case.

Thanks

Mopman :)

EDIT: This is another I have found which I think meets the requirements better: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-15-p089na-beats-special-edition-15-6-touchscreen-laptop-red-black-10019152-pdt.html#cat-0

Well. I dont know about 1080p with that budget, unless 1080p is the ONLY goal...

Laptop cut-throat companies think 768p is good enough to milk with.

For that budget i would suggest

DELL INSPIRON 3542

Because it costs around 500$ and has a 15" IPS screen. Ye, its 1366x768, but its a damn IPS instead of a eye burning TN garbage.

Also has a 820m. Which should be miles better than the integrated crap and will last for quite a while with even light, casual gaming in mind.

Its DELL, and looks solid without any stupidly raised hinges or something that will break instantly.

Judging by youtube videos ive seen it in... it doesnt appear to flicker. Not 100% sure, but it might just be a flicker free screen. Which is good for the eyes.

Asus laptops for example ALL flicker, so fuck Asus.

And has easy access to the HDD bay. So you could swap out the HDD with a SSD without voiding your warranty and that would turn the laptop into such a sharp and fast machine that would otherwise cost 2k $ or something.

That would be my pick anyway. And i hate 768p resolution, but if the budget makes me choose between 1080p TN and 768p IPS, ill go with the IPS
