when i try to play minecraft, i hear a very loud screeching from my gpu. it is only minecraft (i am getting 1400 FPS)

my gpu is the sapphire r9 280x tri xx (has not yet been overclocked).

 

any help would be good, thank you!

probably coil whine, if it's running at a super high fps it can do that. Try to limit your fps to something lower ;)

It could be just coil whine in the graphics card itself, but you may also check if your PSU is providing enough amps for the rail the graphics card is connected to. Could even be some phantom A/C current generated by the PSU, but that could only be determined if you have an oscilloscope and some basic knowledge how to use one.

Either way, you should be fine by simply limiting your frame rate to something more reasonable for your monitor anyway, either 60, 120 or 144 FPS depending on your monitor to avoid screen tearing by additionally utilizing VSync.

yeah limitting it to 60 removes the issue.

I get around 400.
