Good Afternoon LTTF,

I recently got my custom loop going and I love it! I do have one question about maintenance. I got the XSPC Raystorm 750 EX240 Kit and realized it didnt come with any fluid. So I picked up a close out deal of Ice Dragon Cooling White Nanofluid for 12$ at my local Micro Center plus i normally get a discount because im really good friends with the assistant manager but its still super cheap with how expensive this fluid is. Anyways I watched Jayz video on beginner loops and maintenance and I believe he recommened 6 month maintenance with distilled water. But some people say that with Ice Dragon the loop doesnt need to be cleaned for up to a year which kinda sounds absurd. But for you veteran warriors out there what is your take?

After 2 years of running my custom loop with EK clear coolant, i flushed the loop and was a little shocked to see that the water was nearly the same colour as the new stuff i was putting back in it.

Moral of the story: use good coolant as to not have too change it often!

Are you saying Ice Dragon isnt good as ive heard it is pretty good as far as nano fluids go?

No I'm not, I'm saying I have had great success with EK coolant.

Oh ok i mean i dont really know anything about coolant fluids. ive only read that ice dragon uses biocides in its fluid so i didnt have to use dead water and it also says it has preservatives in it for a longer lasting loop w/o maintenance. now that may just be an advertising gimmick but i also havent found any sort of evidence that its actually true. so in other words i have no idea.

Well i think with that coolant you should be fine with a 12 month life.

To extend it depending on the loop set-up you could keep an eye on the colour of the coolant (making sure there aren't ant abnormal particles and that the water is generally the same colour).

Also make sure that you flush the water block and rad before use!
