Network Issues

Kopaii

So lately I've been having some real connection issues with my PC. I am using a wireless USB adapter to connect to my home Wifi and it's been running poorly for a while. I decided to get a cat 6 ethernet cable from Amazon and tried it out, hoping for much improved results. In the end, I could only connect to my router but not access the internet using the wired connection. Can anyone help me out here? I'm sick of wireless but my wired is playing up for some reason.

Does the internet work wirelessly and did you plug out the USB adapter when you connected via cable? If you did both and it still didn't work, try disconnecting the internet wirelessly and if possible, turn that feature off.

Also what OS are you running?

The internet works on my phone and my family's wireless devices, and it works when I use the USB adapter, just it's really really slow. When I use the cable I can't access the internet at all and I made sure the wireless adapter wasn't plugged in. I disabled the wireless adapter's drivers and still no luck.

I am using Windows 7. :P

Do you have a ethernet driver installed? Is the Ethernet cable plugged into the correct port on your router?

Yeah, the cable is plugged in to the right ports, and yes I have installed my motherboard's LAN drivers.

What Router do you have?

Internet speeds?

Motherboard?

Can you link the Cable your brought from Amazon.

Try Unplugging all Ethernet devices from the router and plug your cable into each port and try to connect to the internet.

Where you plug the Ethernet cable into you Motherboard, do you see a LED, it should flash green when internet in use and other colours

Just a white box one that comes from Sky, my ISP. I have no idea of a specific model or anything. Just a note though, my brother's PC works fine wired with it and so does his xbox. :P

Well my brother gets 20MB/s down and 1MB/s up using the same cable to the same router. I can't even load Speedtest to see what I get to mine. :/

I have a Biostar A960D+ motherboard.

The white box, does it say Open reach and look like this:  http://www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/bt-openreach-modem.jpg      You dont plug it into that, your router connects tho that.

OR do you have one of these:

Check for you MB drivers - http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=627#dl

Download the On Board Lan Driver and install, you can try to download then uninstall your ethernet driver then rebot and install this driver.

You can also try updating the BIOS to its latest version

And Check in BIOS for a ethernet or lan setting.

In some BIOSs you can enable/disable the ethernet controller.

I re-installed the drivers using the download on the Biostar website and am now getting decent results using my cable.
