Windows install help!

I have an XPS 700 that will not accept any OS I try (Windows 7 Home premium, Windows XP Pro) windows XP blue screens and says something about: CHKDSK /F

 

windows 7 does nothing and just resets the pc after the windows is loading files screen.

 

please help this is my everyday pc!

I would check your hard drive settings in the bios i had a similar issue and I changed a setting to ahci from raid on my aunts computer and I was able to fix it.

Also what are you installing windows from?

an internal optical drive

I don't know how many drives you have installed (discF)? but I would disconnect all but the one you're trying to install on, make sure the optical drive is first boot device and HD second. then reboot with disc in drive. follow instructions on screen.

nothing is working, It wont take an os still.

and you checked the sata cable and power cable to make sure they are firm at both ends?

I got windows 7 to re-install I removed half my ram (4gb) and it worked right away.

finish the updates/ and reinstall the other dimm. hope it works right.

windows 7 is working now but will not accept the other dimm.

 and if you pull the "good" dimm and put the other in the same slot as the good one? if it works properly try the other slot with both dimms. either a bad ram stick or bad slot on the board.

What version are you installing it to?

32 bit or 64 bit?

so windows works now?

 

if you swapped the same stick from slot to slot ( each stick separately ) and both sticks work ,but only 1 stick will work at a time in the same slot, you have a bad slot.
