Your perspective's correct; it's just different branding. However that thread you linked is about people's favourite memory.

 

Hence why people are stating Corsair Dominator Platniums due to their appearance. Although, don't forget the overclockability of a RAM stick and its compatibility/stability with the CPU.

 

But memory's all the same, pretty much. It's just different heatsinks and what goes well with your colour scheme.
