Hello Everyone,

My current build is below and I am looking into upgrading some components to increase gaming FPS. I believe my CPU would be the bottleneck of this build and was looking into either upgrading to a FX-8350 or switching to Intel and going with a i5 4460 or something similar. What do you think would be the best option to go with to see the highest performance increase?

The games I mostly play are Arma 3, DayZ, WOW, HOTS. And i also stream a lot of videos.

Current specs:

CPU AMD FX-6200 Zambezi 6-Core 3.8GHz

GPU SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition OC 2GB 256-bit GDDR5

Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s

Ram G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

HDD's OS - SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD120BW

2x 1TB drives for Storage

PowerSupply CM 1000 Watt (not sure specific model right now)

Case CM HAF 932 Full Tower

OS Windows 8.1

Mouse Razer Naga

Keyboard CM Storm QuickFire Ultimate

HeadSet Corsair Vengeance 1500

If anyone could look at my current build and give me some recommendations's that would be greatly appreciated. Also if I forgot to post something please let me know.

an 8xxx chip wouldn't be an upgrade over a 6xxx chip, they are the same thing but the 8xxx chips have an extra core module.

I want to stay around $300 but If its worth my time to save a little longer then that is also an option.

well if you want to stream and stuff, I would get a better CPU first. Your GPU is fine for mid-high settings.

So I would get the best CPU you can get with a mediocre motherboard and overclock it with a 212 EVO

How about the i5-4460 and a Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard. Also would I actually be able to tell a difference in performance to make this upgrade worthwhile?

ya that works. you might not notice a huge FPS increase it will help a little down the line when you want to put a newer GPU in or something like that.

Hmm that might work, do you think that this upgrade would be worth my time?

I don't think the FX is a big "bottleneck" If you'd like to increase fps a lot get a new GPU.

You could probably find a GTX 970 or R9 290x under $300.

A 6200 is one of the worse FX CPUs though Upgrading to a 6300(new architecture) and OC-ing it a bit would make as much difference as you need though the 8350s are lowering in prices quite a lot making it tempting as well.

For streaming there is no CPU like the 8350 on Intel's side if you want to do that.

In my opinion: leave the CPU and get a new GPU, much bigger difference in performance for the same money an i5+MOBO would cost.

Then save more money and by the time you have enough for an upgrade there will be a new Intel MOBO and CPU ready for you.
