So I am working on a way to hook my desktop, laptop, and media center pc (future build) onto one lan network, no internet is needed for multiplayer gaming, and work for future youtube channel with friends (we are doing it for fun, and wanting to occasionally share the fun moments we have with the outside world, the internet is to crappy here to reliably make the videos with playing over it. My friend lives just down the road and laptop could be set up on a local network, but due to the base router/modem (router #1) i have the wireless is to crappy to have the games played over wireless LAN.

So what I am asking is for suggestions on a switch/router/modem (router #2) that allow me to hook up at least 3 computers in one room at the same time.

I need Router #2 to connect the 3 PCs wired.

I want Router #2 to also connect to Router #1 via wireless, since due to the house layout I will be unable to connect Router #2 to Router #1 unless it is wireless, as well as moving #1 or plugging #2 somewhere else is impossible.

Router #2's and #1's connection only needs to be good enough to allow steam to authorize and allow the 3 PCs to be "online" in the sense that we can steam chat with the outside world for authorizing and such.

Router #2 and #1 do not even need to connect, but it would be preferred since it is simpler to have steam online, rather than hoping offline mode works on the devices.

Lastly I do not care if it is used, or old, it only needs to be compatible with win7 and win8.

As for Pricing I have ~$12USD now, but may have up to $35 to spend in a week or two, if it is more than that I will be open to hear about it, but please if you know of one that works and is within that I would prefer that.

Thank you all for any and all help you would be able to give.

Nothing to see here, move along

Not entirely sure what you're trying to do... your way of explaining it is a bit confusing, that or I'm just too tired to understand it.

What I got out of it:

Well whats the purpose of router 1 if all it is doing is connecting to router 2? why not just connect the internet directly to router 2 then connect the 3 computers to it?

Maybe just use powerline ethernet connecting router 1 to a switch which is connected to your 3 computers?

I do not have ~$50 just for powerline, let alone to include the switch. also The connection is not necessary between Router#2 and #1, i stated that it was preferred, but not necessary. remember Router#2 is just the reference to the switch or modem or router that i need to get to allow the LAN for multiplayer games.

I'm not exactly sure of how all the wiring and such for your home is so I am very limited on what I can suggest.

i would like to have a modem/switch/router that can connect to router #1 wirelessly, and supports at least 3 PCs. The router/modem/switch does not need to connect at all, but if it can wirelessly that that is great. I only have $12USD to spend now, but at most in a few weeks i could spend up to ~$35 otherwise i would just buy a switch and powerline it, but due to a lack of funds that is not an option. sorry for keeping this complicated (complicated if someone is tired, except when im tired in which case the complicated stuff seems simple).

Could you let em know what routers that you have, some of them include a "wireless bridge" which is what you are describing.

Once we know that we can help.

ZyXEL PK5000Z Router, ASUS PCE-N15 in my Desktop, and Intel Network 7260.HMWG in my laptop. due to the ammount of isulation and metal in the walls, i am ~25 feet away from the router on one floor lower than it, it passes through so much that the signal s barely one bar on the laptop, and one bar on the desktop, even though the desktop and routers antenna have been replaced with Super Power Supply 9dBi Dual Band antenna that timmytech recommends. before the replacement both the laptop and the desktop rarely got signal.

I have checked those part numbers and it appears that we are missing one router on the list is that right.

Also is the ZyXEL router one or two in this setup.

Im looking for a second router/modem/switch that is what i needed help with finding. and the new one, the one im looking for would be Router#2

thank you for your help, if i use the one you suggested with a cheap switch i should be able to connect with what i need, the only thing left to do is wait a few weeks to implement it.

That is a wireless repeater too  :)

would do the job also, looks nicer too.

Thank you both so much, f22lukes suggestion is better since what i need with his is one piece of hardware, and with yours 2 pieces, but both are great thanks all of you.
