So this is mainly my first post here. I don't really like forums in general, but i decided to signup anyway. 
I' really need some help regarding my new investment. I already have a custom built "deskstop PC" dating back from 2008, which is kind of all school now, i guess.

 

The parts i have currently (i upgraded a few since i got the main parts back then)

2,67 gigahertz Intel Core i5 750 (with a big cooler, no idea from where)

Asus NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660

My monitor: ASUS VW247 (if someone should ask) planning on changing to a 3d monitor in the future. 

 

Anyway, what i've focused on in the new build is somewhat cheap and yet something that will improve my performance a lot.

I would like to point out, that i haven't decided on the PC-Casing yet, and i have no idea what to choose. Also whenever i should go with Water-cooling or Air-cooling. 

 

Anyway here is a list of what i found so far:

Intel Core i7 4790k - 4GHz LGA 1150

ASUS Sabertooth z97 mark 1 - ATX LGA1150

Cooler master CM Storm Trooper

Corsair RM550 - 550w

 

Now i have a few questions. And a few comments.

I would like to reuse my graphics card in the new pc - possible? and with SLI? If i decide to buy an extra in the future.

Would also like to reuse my Hard drives from Seagate not the 500gb though.

And ofc, i would like to reuse the ram - Is that OK or are they too bad/old?

And lastly - 2 BIG questions.

Is the power supply big enough? Can i run this setup with it? Or do i need to go for a higher w? - For future use i would like to have SLI in graphich card, and maybe a few extra vents. or whatever.

Should i go with water-cooling or air-cooling? I don't like maintenance, so please keep this answer simple

 

Also anyone have any suggestions to anything else that is cheaper than this current setup, that runs the same?

I've been wondering about the motherboard, is the Maximus ranger/hero an alternative or is it crap compared to?

I can come up with a rig for you. As for the graphics card, I say the 660 is pretty out-dated and should be upgraded. Also unless you're doing major pc things besides gaming, a 4790k might be too much, although that's what i got (although i do plan on doing video editing or things of that sort)

You didn't exactly give a price range, but tried to make it somewhat reasonable. I left out the hdds and ram since you had some. a 650w psu gives more room if you do plan on running more gpus

I don't think of 660 GTX to be outdated. I can run BF3 smoothly atm, by using 1 card only on my old pc. 

Doubt i will have problems in any other games. 

(runs shadow of mordor also perfectly).

 

I use my Desktop for; Gaming, coding, programming, editing, Graphics development, rendering movies. 

So i doubt an I5 is the ideal choice, but then again i might be mistaken. 

 

Really hate the Tower casing, if i should pick another one, it needs to be "big tower". Tired of having problems with my big hands, in those small cases.

 

Why did you choose the Hero atx over the sabertooth? Any specific reason or just prefer it over the other?

Budget is around 1100$ or 6500kr.

If you're going to be doing all that, by all means go with an I7.

 

I think Fractal Design makes good cases. the case i got for my next build (which I should be able to do tomorrow) uses an Arc XL case from them and it's really big.

 

the mobo was just as good and $100 cheaper
