Do you have a GPU on the Slot?

If so remove it and plug the cable in onboard HDMI and try.

But this article says it's working, but on Display port.

If you've a display port you can try that too!

Also install the Nvidia Web driver.

Have you tried on Display port.

Because lot of people on Hackintosh forums says GTX 980 works in Display port and they install the latest Web driver and it installs just fine.

But there are some problems occurs like some glitches in preview, scrolling on browsing. You may want to google about it.

When I built my computer, the on-board HDMI in the motherboard would not output to a display.  I figured that it had to work with some output, so I tried connecting via a on-board VGA port.  Then it outputted to the display and I was able to install drivers for the GPU and stuff through there.  It works through VGA w/o the GPU in the computer as well.  I do think that it's stupid that it won't output to the on-board HDMI right out of the box.  I hope this fixes your problem.
