But more specific like this 10/100/1000 on network cards and how your pc connects to the internet and does 800mbps = 100Mbps

Hey, 

 

I am still a little unsure of the question and what you want to gain from this.

 

A network card is rated in bits per second and storage is in bytes. there are 8bits to every byte so you should be able to calculate from there.

 

100mbps =  12.5MBs

Oh okay so what about internet what is this 16 megabit average internet speed and if so whould you only be able to download stuff at 2 megabytes per second and what about the is 1000 megabit bandwith? do we really need 1000 megabit band with why not just 100 if the average download speed is 16mbps?

10/100/100 is the max speed of the network card eg 10 Megabits / second, Computers connect to a router that obtains a local IP address, then the router sends a request to get an Internet IP address. 800mbps does equal 100Mbps 

 

So 10/100/1000 = to____________

1.25/ 12.5/ 125 Mbps

Keep in mind, Mb != MB

mb = Mb = Megabit

mB = MB = Megabyte

 

But I still don't get what 10/100/1000 it just seems like a bunch of random numbers.

10/100/1000 are the different speeds that the NIC (Network Interface Card) can connect at. These are the different speeds that follow the various standards (10Base-T/100Base-T/1000Base-T respectively).

1) Yes, the router is the gateway device on the network, it's the bridge connecting your home network to the internet. For any computer to connect to the internet they must connect through the gateway (or router in this case).

 

2) The download speed is the maximum speed that your connection to the internet is. Usually devices that are wired to your modem (like a router) can achieve this maximum speed, but if you're connecting over a slower link (like WiFi) you may not get all of your speed.

Sadly, not ever ISP can/will actually give you all of the speed that you pay for, hence why it's the "maximum" speed.

 

3) A lot of people buy separate ethernet cards if they need more connectors or if the built in is not fast enough (in the case of an older motherboard). The speed of these cards also affect your speed on your local network (say, between a home server and desktop).

 

 

If anything I've explained is confusing I'd be more than happy to either go into more detail or explain it in a different way :)

Thanks for clearing that up, but what is the difference between a router and a modem.
