So Boxing week is coming up and my PC is slowing down...

I really need some suggestions as to what to get in terms of upgrades.

As of right now I have

i3-2120

Asus P8H61-M LE/CSM

8GB 1600MHz Patriot Viper DDR3 (2x4GB)

EVGA GTX650 SC

Mushkin Volta 500w PSU

Seagate 1TB HDD.. not sure which exact one but... yeah

Main things I'm looking to upgrade are... well basically everything but the RAM and HDD are probably the last things I want to upgrade.

I have a bit of a budget. Around $400 usable right now / near future and I really want to get a new Mobo, CPU and PSU out of the way first

Here's what I came up with: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/VLQGt6

SSD is only going to be used for a boot drive unless if by the time I get to it 120-240GB becomes significantly cheaper and is not a major priority for me right now.

I really want at least a semi-modular PSU because the case I'm using right now is the Bitfenix Phenom and not having a modular PSU leaves an insane amount of clutter in the case.

I am willing to buy all the parts at separate times (When I have more money) But i'd like to keep everything usable, for instance, buying a CPU without buying a motherboard with the appropriate socket.

The Mushkin Volta isn't a continuous 500w. I think it's like 350w so if I'm gonna get all these new parts I think it would be good to have some headroom. I was gonna get one of the Corsair CX PSUs but the EVGA one is a lot cheaper, at least on PC Parts Picker.

I picked the motherboard because I wanted space for some upgrading (4 RAM slots, 2 PCI-e slots, etc.) and getting that USB 3.0 front header, however I'm not too sure about how much longer the FM2 socket will be relevant, which is my main concern with going this route.

All suggestions are appreciated!!! And please keep in mind I am working with an mATX case sooo yeahhhhh.

EDIT: PC used for... everything haha. Mainly gaming but I also do a lot of video and photo editing. Also gonna be doing a lot of programming with it.

Please tell us what you use your PC for. For games, I'd do the GPU and CPU

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

I would get an i5-4690k and a mobo and hold off on the other upgrades. Sell the i3 and the mobo and just keeps saving for a new GPU. If the R9 270 provides enough performance for you, you shouldn't be too far off from affording it. I would grab that 750W psu as well if you think you need it (it seems like you do).

That's just what I would do.

Corsair 5000D / Intel Core i7-12700KF / Arctic Liquid Freezer 3 360mm / MSI Meg Z690 Ace / RTX 3080 Ti Founder's Edition / 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB 3200 MHz CL32 / Corsair RM1000X / 1TB ADATA SX8200 Pro (Boot) / 2TB Acer Predator GM7000 Gen 4 (Storage) / MSI MPG271QRX-QD / MSI Mag 274QRF-QD / LG CX 55" / G-Pro Wireless
