has anyone tried the new Athlon X4 860k? I noticed it is FM2+ which would allow me to use PCIE 3.0 which is the main reason I want to get it even if there isn't a performance difference.

note that the 860K just a CPU part, you will still need a dGPU

and the board your are using will have VRM heating up very fast as they are not heatsinked

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

you should be good

try to find some RAM sinks and thermal tape and stick them to the VRMs which are the black squares next to the CPU socket in between the IOs

Why do you think the Athlon X4 860k would give me issues? I have my A6-5400k @4ghz right now and had it a 4.3ghz before but turned it down over the summer just haven't felt like turning it back up

the 860K has a 95 Watt TDP which will draw a lot of current

high current will cause the VRMs to heat up pretty fast

It is perfectly fine to run graphics cards at 8x currently (may not be that way in a few years) if that is your only reason i'd say stop...stop now...

2 reasons I want to upgrade. 1 it will go from PCI-E 2.0 X16 to PCI-E3.0 X16 also I will go from a Dual core CPU to a Quad Core CPU. And the X4 860K has a better memory controller and it is just newer in general I am still on a Trinity APU The X4 860k is a lot newer

the iTX mobo VRMs are much worse and expansion will be limited

Might look into it I just like the way my case is now it fits perfect in the spot next to my screen on my desk but then again I would like a more watercooling friendly case
