how much surface area would i need if i want to cool only my CPU without fans?

CPU: [overclocked] phenom II X6 4.0 GHZ

Oh boy, that'll be tough. you're talking about more than 150W of passive cooling on a CPU

 

Forget about it.

Even a 800-1000rpm fan will make things worlds better and can be almost silent, while prolonging the lifespan of your computer.

I agree with ilikemacandpc, one huge fan would be next to silent and pretty efficient. 

 

Although I do think that an entirely passively cooled pc would be an awesome project!

ok, i was thinking a 240 and a 280 

but i can always run like 4 fans 800RPM 

that would do the trick right? and would be quiet.
