The Space Sim genre

Hi guys,

So I haven't played a space sim/combat for about 10 years now. I used to play a lot of Freespace as well as Star Wars games (X-Wing Alliance, old X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter, etc). But for the past years, I have been out of the loop of this genre. Back in the days, I tried the X games and I found them quite boring. I guess if you compare X games to Freespace games, Freespace is much more a space combat game than a space sim such as X. But now that I am a grown up (sort of!), the space sim genre kind of interests me. Of course, I know about Star Citizen and it looks pretty awesome especially graphic wise. However, yesterday I came accross Elite:Dangerous, which came out few days ago. I was watching some Twitch and Youtube about ED and Star Citizen and I find to be interested by both at the moment. No Man's Sky is also coming in eventually and looks very interesting. I also read about Eve:Valkyrie, but not much info is out yet.

Has anyone tried ED and Star Citizen ? How do both compare together ? I have watched some comparisons and Star Citizen seems to win but not by much. Star Citizen seems to have more dogfights than ED, however ED seems to focus more about space exploration.

On the same topic, are you guys using joysticks for these games ? When I was playing space sim games back in the days, I used to have a wonderful/magnificent/lovely Microsoft Sidewinder ForceFeedback 2. Unfortunately, it brokes beyond repairs few years ago and I would need to get another joystick. What are you guys using as sticks ?

Happy holidays to you guys and happy gaming :)

Neo.

Star Citizen is still a long way off from a final release (I believe that the online persistent universe part of the game isn't going to be out for more than a year), so there just isn't very much to do in it yet. (that hasn't prevented me from dumping more money than I'd care to admit into it's crowdfunding campaign, but I'd suggest that you shouldn't fund it unless you know what you're getting in to.)

I haven't played ED (or even looked into it very much) but since it's a complete game, there should be plenty of stuff to do.. I haven't heard any real complaints about it, so I would assume that it's pretty good.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems
