ive noticed that ''next gen games'' look the same as last gen (minor improvements) The Crew, assassins creed and like 50 other games that have just been released are shockingly awful!!! when will developers take advantage of this new technology and give us something worth buying, not all the same old crap!.

It makes me angry that those shitty underpowered consoles hold back graphical progress. What happened to: ''ohhh next gen consoles are gonna be x86 based so we can develop games for full potential of pc and scale them down''. Hopefully witcher 3 will set new standard in graphic fidelity and push the envelope for other devs a bit. ./

the porting process has indeed got simplified. Don't judge the industry by Ubisoft.

I didn't say that recent games were awful. all im saying is that i feel that pc games - in terms of graphical fidelity - have been held back by bad console performance.

As  I see it...Regardless of gameplay/genre/expectations..

LastGen>Current Gen = More Detailed Scenery/Resolution,..which is great especially for sitting 4ft+ away comparing then to now...480p > 900p or even 576p>720p

The same/slightly bumped Up Resolution is nice with 480p/540p/720p turning into 720p/900p/1080p (30/60 fps is game dev dependent)

& Clean looking High Resolution Scenes can have a higher spread of sparse details and/or sacrificed draw distance/object details to make up for the resolution jumps.

Such small console housings made a little bigger,..to house better cooling for better hardware, would maybe have been hugely better for the long road.

(speculating now) If they had come out with ....

ie: Custom OS + Corei3 or AMDFX-4Core + either the NV 750Ti Or AMD 265/270 (or future efficient equivalents)

(/w Console 'To the Metal' enhancements) (/w Nvidia/AMD Enhancements,.Simulated 4k!)

Just make a larger enclosure, show people some real raw power and what it can do, people will buy it.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

We are not being held back by consoles. And if we are you should blame developers, not the consoles. The last gen consoles in the 2nd half of their life-cycle were holding things back. Not now with the Xbox One and the PS4. Don't be fooled into thinking that just because they are not running games at 1080p 60 fps that they are holding back PC development, it does not work like that. Remember we got stuff like Crysis 3 on PC when the prev generation consoles were out, it's the developers job to make a scalable game across a variety of hardware. Also remember on the steam hardware survey the average graphics processing power for a PC gamer is weaker than the new consoles, although CPU is stronger.

Graphics are progressing, it's just less visible now. Why? Because of the law of diminishing returns. Once you cross a certain threshold you have to make massive increases in complexity just to  make the on-screen graphics look marginally better to the naked eye.

Also a lot of people think PC graphics are not progressing because they have forgotten how things looked 4 years ago. Your mind fills in the gaps and in your memory those games stll look good; until you load them up again and see it with your own eyes.
