Home server build 350D

Go to solution Solved by Qpm5,

I decided on going with a NZXT vulcan because it was more portable for moveing it around from my desk to my tv I also chose an APU instead of a dedicated card
and i put a noctua cooler on it because i wanted to overclock it and because it is a quiet cooler.

I kinda forgot to also mention i changed my plans and wanted this to be more of a media PC and make a cheap Nas Sorry

i am planning on doing a 350D build for data storage and so my family can use it so i want to know what you guys would recommend for, CPU, Matx Motherboard and hard drives . I want this to be as cheap as possible within reason though i want it to be nice. Also the rig is not for heavy gameing i just want a gpu so my brother can play some times because he plays some games on a 7-8 year old laptop

so far

Case 350D

PSU tx 650 ( in my current rig im going to get a modular one and switch them out)

GPU- 650 ti boost

Ram corsair vengeance ram

OS- win7 or 8

dvd drive and such

I want to keep this under 800 dollars but i can go over if need be

If i forgot anything im sorry

This would be a perfect PC for streaming video or surfing the web. I wouldn't recommend gaming on it at all but for a family PC, this is awesome.

I have managed to fit an SSD into the budget.

Some Intel H61 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Ivy Bridge CPUs.

This is the only issue you would have to overcome. Fairly simple to deal with though.

case (unless for décor) is way over the top in expense

PSU is far over-watted 350-400watt

don't need dedicated graphics for server, onboard graphics is plenty

4gb of 1333/1600 (heat spreader is over the top) nekidd modules

slim aftermarket CPU cooler to cool the VRM and CPU is helpful.

windows home server

ODD is extra, use USB to load OS.

can be done a lot less than $800, using muffinators parts and consider

a Celeron, 60GB SSD (OS only needed), and figuring that the biggest

costs are the CPU, case HDD and OS. even look into AMD APU can be

had for $150.. just saying

Here's what you could do instead if you don't have your heart set on the 350D.
