If you live by T-Mobile you can swing buy and pick up an Asus RT AC68U for $25 if you are a T-Mobile customer or $100 if you are not. I highly recommend this router at this price point.

Edit: You will need to buy a modem if you don't already have one.

You can just disable the wireless on that router and purchase the router that you want and use it as just an access point. I.e. disable dhcp set the ip of the local interface as something else such as if your cisco modem/router is 192.168.1.1 put the secondary router as 192.168.1.2. That basically just makes the new router act like an access point. Then plug both routers into the LAN port when connecting them. Not the Lan of the cisco router to the WAN port of the secondary router. Not much latency change running it this way. My parents house cant pick up wireless on the other side so I ran a drop for them and put another ap there and matched all the settings so it would auto associate between ap's if they moved around the house and its still just as fast.

I think I have a decent picture of what I have to do thank you sir
