How do i benchmark a game

How do i benchmark a game.  Lets use BF4 for an exmaple.  I want to play for say 5 mins an get a min max avg fps for that game.  How do i do it.

I can help with programming and hardware.

Pick a section that's easily repeatable and have a frame rate counter running in the background, like FRAPS for example. And continue doing that over and over again with each test.
