So I have an idea for a personal programming project. I'm a lazy bugger right now due to being on my phone, so I'll post this link http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sj65kb

That is the basic idea behind my project. My main reason for posting here is that I would like some feedback, or ideas from the LTT community. Anything else that I could add, or make better in my idea, or even just what you think, or if it would be handy. This is mostly aimed at students either at school or college/university. Thank you for your time

I think I understand what you're wanting to do. Sounds like your application will be a manager for the set of documents/files in it's directory. So from one application you can create, delete, open, copy/paste, filter, etc without having to open any folders/other applications yourself.

Is that correct or am I getting it wrong?

Couldn't have put it better myself. That's pretty much spot on. It will also be completely configurable too

Sounds like it could be good tool.

It's good to make it completely configurable, but you should (if possible) have a set amount of functionality that will just work as soon as it's installed without any configuration. Many people wont want, or know how, to configure it and will just want it "to work" as soon as it's installed. Something that is simple enough for a user who knows very little about computers to use, yet is complex enough that a computer savvy person can configure it to their liking.

You might be able to add automatic compression and/or encryption as advanced options. Linking with cloud storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc) is another option to consider.

Those could be things to add as I get most of the base functionality down. I'm intending for this to accommodate for most office applications, whether it be Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, LibreOffice, you name it. To begin with, the only configuration will be a prompt to direct the program to where your documents folder is (If I can't work out how to make it automatically detect where the documents folder is), and that will be used as a "Misc" group, then users can configure actual groups as they please. Each group may also have their own folder, but I'm not sure if that would be desirable or not. Possibly even have that as a user setting.
