Amazon order issue...

To cut the story short; I had an order placed on Amazon but cancelled it whilst it was still in the 'Preparing for dispatch' stage and when cancelling was quoted 'Guaranteed immediate cancellation'. Now i personally believed that Amazon only charged your account once the item had been dispatched... 

However, i have been charged for the cost of the cancelled order that wasn't dispatched and cancelled immediately. 

 

My question is, when you cancel an order on Amazon that hasn't been dispatched, would your account still have been charged before dispatch? And if so, is there a refund period? 

 

I have contacted customer service but will probably take a while for them to get back to me; so in the mean time i thought i'd ask you guys, if my account should have actually been charged before dispatch?

You know that you can also chat with the Amazon support? My credit card was charged a few days after order most of the time.

I've had nothing but good experiences with amazon live chat. They're always incredibly helpful. If anyone is able to give you a straight answer, it will be one of those reps.
