Pretty straight forward.

I (have to, shipping issues) can choose between two reservoirs:

XSPC Photon 270 or EK-Res X3 250?

Both are great it just depends on the look you want and cost factor. The Photon has a really nice clarity since it's a glass reservoir and will be very hard to impossible to stain if you plan to use colored coolant, more difficult to install though but the EK one is modular which if you need to change the acrylic cylinder or size of the reservoir.

The thing that scares me of the Photon is the triple threads on the bottom instead of the "classic" 70° angled on the side.

How am I supposed to connect it as an "end" (fill back to the reservoir) with 45° angled?

For tube reservoirs the in and put doesn't matter, since it is a bottom entry reservoir you can either use a 90 degree fitting or 45 as you said to change the direction of it towards your incoming tubing.

I heard that it's always not true.

For example, the inlet has to be on the bottom port (fill port) and the pump always has to be (gravity level) below the reservoir, therefore using one of the three ports.

But yeah, I might need to get a 90° fitting AND a 45° fitting to do a weird angle, as a I want the res to fill back from the CPU socket.

Yes you always want the reservoir to feed directly into the pump to prevent it from running dry, but as for going back into the reservoir you can use any of the the other two ports on the bottom since for the Photon it doesn't accept a tube coming in from the top since the top uses a larger sized fitting to make fitting easier.

For your run from the CPu if you are mounting it over to the right of the motherboard you could get a dual 90 degree fitting from the reservoir and run the tube along side the res. and over the ram to the CPU waterblock.

*cut*

Here's how my setup is going to be.

The red line coming from the CPU to the Reservoir is where a fitting from the Ek-Res should have been.

Now with the Photon (and stupid me, I only bought 45°) I guess I'll have either to change my plans or to a weird angle for the "last" port.

Yeah the photon has a unique port placement, maybe a 90 fitting to get it out from under the reservoir and a 45 to get it to go upwards towards the CPU socket. That would give the shortest run as tubing goes.
