Cheapest Gaming Rig?

Guys I need help.

I am currently looking to buy a PC but my options are VERY expensive, atleast for me. I did plan on building Austin Evans' 450$ proton,

(

).

But I still feel that is expensive, I already have a PC. It is a HP 500B MT Home Edition OEM PC. It has a 300W PSU, Intel Core Duo E7500, a FOXCONN 2A8C Motherboard, 2 gigs or some cheap Hyundai RAM and 782MB of video RAM (Integrated). I am not sure about the last one, but CPU-Z says that is the right amount.

Can you suggest a decent upgrade to my OEM PC, or a little bit cheaper PC upgrade?

All suggestions are welcome :)

Your OEM PC is bad, as in REALLY REALLY BAD. Don't bother upgrading it.

Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($50.38 @ Newegg)
Video Card: HIS Radeon R9 270 2GB IceQ X² Video Card  ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($32.99 @ Micro Center)
Total: $485.91

I would go for this build instead. Yes it's slightly more expensive but HEAPS more powerful, beating out Austin's build without breaking a sweat

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Wow. Thank you for the fast reply. I live in a place where online ordering is kinda not very easy but it is possible.

Any idea why my OEM PC sucks?

It is multiple generations old.  You probably won't even be able to find compatible hardware (at a reasonable price) even if you wanted to upgrade.

More detail:

The motherboard socket (where your CPU connects to) is very outdated and can't be used anymore.

An OEM 300W PSU most likely won't be able to power a dedicated GPU.

Your 500GB Hard drive may even still be IDE, which you'd have to buy extra adapters just to plug in.

If I remember correctly, LGA775 still uses DDR2, which is just hitting 2 generations old (and in terms of RAM, that is pretty big)

Also, everything goes on sale.  You can save a lot of money by buying things on sale.  Motherboards, for example, buy the cheapest one that is compatible.  Same probably goes with RAM, HDD and PSU, unless you start looking at some no-name 0 reviews stuff.

Also idk where your located but another option for you at least if your here in the US is if the parts list that you were given earlier is a bit to much for you there is always craigslist since we are getting really close to Christmas people are selling their last last gen pc's for a bargin since they just built new rigs from black friday sales and you could probably get a decent low-mid range gaming rig for $250-350 that you could use as a foundation to upgrade upon.

If $450 is "expensive" for u for gaming system then u cant be helped dude..

Go buy a console, seriously. Or buy used PC, any used pc under $300 will be better than your current one.

Very old cpu with integrated graphics.. my $300 dollar phone has more cpu and gpu power. Technology has improved a loooooot since your pc was built.

I bet u have problems running Minecraft.

Its hard to explain if u havent experienced a proper gaming rig or played a game on your system and then played it at full details with no fps drops on proper gaming pc.

Thony I do, I can only play minecraft if I crank the settings super low. I don't have a lot of money to spend on this since I am after all, just a 14-year old. My budget is 400-500$.

Rodneyg87 I live in Bahrain, a small island off of Saudi Arabia. There is a computer parts showroom called Advanti in bahrain, but the parts are wayyy expensive, in fact, their cheapest PC is a 1000$ or so PC.

Jaypro Thanks a lot for explaining why I suck. You saved me from buying a cheap GT 610!

Then i would say your best option would be to save your money and when you can save enough then try to build a new one i know it will suck trust me i feel your pain i have $500 in hand right now but I want an awesome rig that can play any game at 1080p on ultra so thats why i am saving my money until april when i get my check from my student loan overage and combining the money i have saved up with the $800 ill be getting from that and building myself an awesome $1,300 gaming rig. And much like your older computer I have a brand new high end macbook pro but it blows when it comes to gaming because non of the parts in it are good for gaming they are all for high end content creation and i intend to sell my mac to recoup the money from building my pc but i cant sell it until i have my pc built because i have to have it for school until i have a suitable replacement. And before anyone flames because i got a mac over a gaming rig to begin with it was forced upon me by the school i just transfered out of. They have whats called project launch box and every student is REQUIRED to purchase this computer/software combo through their tuition. The good news though is the fact that the mac they forced me to purchase is Apple's $3,000 version of their 15 inch retina macbook pro and i can easily throw it on ebay and get $1,500-1,800 out of it since its not even 6 months old yet. And ive been watching the listings on both ebay and craigslist for 15 inch retina macbook pro's and every one ive seen is the 2.1ghz i7 version going for $1,400+ and i have the 2.3ghz i7 version so if they are still going for around the same price come april im sure ill be able to get at least $1,500 for mine. Especially since mine will have Word for Mac 2010, 3 year extended apple care warranty and Lojack for Mac until July 2018 on it.

I don't want the top of the line PC at all, I have no probs playing at 720p at low, I also do some editing for my youtube channel and after effects. I game 30% of the time spend on my computer, and the rest goes for editing and photoshop and such. Any idea of a PC now? i prefer price over performance, but not in an extreme amount.

You know what would be fun? Making the cheapest gaming PC EVER that can run Battlefield 4 at atleast 20 fps. :P

Also someone suggested to buy a cheap gaming PC on ebay and slap a GPU on there. I am not a big fan of that but is it worth it?

WIth your budget, and in the part of the world you live, sadly, I will suggest a Playstation 4 to you. I think it is your best option.

Intel Inside. Overweight guy in his 30's outside.
