Hello,

I was looking to upgrade my CPU and I was wondering if y'all could give me some feedback.

I currently have an AMD FX6300 and I was looking to upgrade to this

I like the increase operating frequency I'm getting but I'm curious as to whether or not that increase is worth the loss of cores.  Is this a valuable upgrade for the purpose of gaming? Specifically games like ARMA 3?

On a side note, here are some of my spec.'s, if this gives you any insight feel free to comment

CPU: AMD FX 6300

GPU: Radeon R9 270X

RAM: 8GB Corsair

Any and all help is appreciated.

P.S. My other option I was considering is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284 which is slightly more expensive than the 4350 (I would also have to buy a new cooler for that one).  Again just offering up some thoughts for critique.

Note: I am also upgrading my RAM in the near future with the addition of another 8GB stick.

I had the same cpu and gpu for my first build. In fact, I still have my r9 270x :) Even with an OC on my fx 6300 at 4.8Ghz....I still  got 50-55 fps in games as well optimized for multicore cpu's like bf4, with my r9 270x on high with 2x msaa. This is ok but in 64p servers.....it was like constant 40-45fps...

I know I spent almost my whole budget I built my dam computer with on a new i7 4790k and MSI z97 Gaming 5 mobo, but it completely removed any cpu bottleneck! I went from 40-45fps on 64p servers on my fx 6300 at 4.8Ghz, with the same graphical settings for my r9 270x, to never dropping below 65fps, staying between 75-85.

A very detailed forum post dealing with the differences between an fx 8350 and i5 4690k here http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/262677-okay-guys-8350-vs-4690k/

Even through it would only cost you a total around $140 for the fx 8350 and around $220 for a locked i5 and motherboard, it would be well worth it.

CPU: Intel I7 4790k @ 4.6Ghz 1.255v | GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 980 Ti | Display: Acer XB270HU bprz | RAM: 16GB (4x4GB) Gskill Ripjaws X 1866MHz | CPU Cooler: H80i | Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 | SSD: Mushkin 120GB + Sandisk 480GB | HDD: WD Blue 1TB | Case: Enthoo Pro |PSU: Seaconic M12II EVO 850w | OS: Windows 10 64-Bit | Mouse: Logitech RGB G502 | Keyboard: Thermaltake Poseidon Z (Brown Switches) |

The 4350 is a downgrade and not an upgrade.

What you should be doing is oc'ing the cpu or upgrading the graphics card. The 8350 isn't that much of an upgrade when oc'ing.
