Hi guys,

I upgraded to the i7 5820k with a Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5 motherboard 2 months ago and for the last month now I have been having odd problems that I am having issues with trying to fix.

When I go to boot the computer after it has been off for a long period of time (mostly during the night so roughly 6-8 hours), it will go into a reboot loop without post or crash on the post screen / windows start up logo. Sometimes it will restart eventually and tell me the the boot has failed and to reset bios which works 90% of the time. Other times a soft reset will allow it to boot and I can freely shut down and start up the computer again with no issues. I've found that running the default 2666Mhz XMP profile was aggravating the issue.

However...

Even after removing the CPU OC and following what Linus said with upping the voltage on the Agent and Dram voltages it only temporarily solved the issue and has returned.
So I am now currently running everything at stock with memory at 2133Mhz and it has only failed once IIRC.

I have tried multiple different BIOS versions and all have had a placebo effect where the symptoms go away for a few days and then return.

I have already replaced the memory as 1 stick was faulty and was tested by G.Skill

I am going out on a limb by thinking, If there is a crack on the soldering on the motherboard itself and as it heats up the slight expansion is closing the crack allowing it to boot?

Full spec is here:

I7-5820k - H50 Cooler

Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5

F7c BIOS

G.Skill Ripjaws 4 16GB 2666Mhz

Gigabyte Windforce X3 780

Corsair TX750M

Samsung Evo 840 - 120GB

OC Specs were:

5820K - 4Ghz @ 1.18v

ripjaws 4 - XMP 2666

Agent voltage +0.220V
DRAM voltage  @ 1.3-1.4 (tried both)

I have an RMA order in process for the motherboard if I definitely have to return it.

Any help is appreciated!

cheers

You could try to Reset Settings (Shouldn't delete your data, but you can also do a Factory Reinstall in the Settings Too)
