So I'm planning on getting a HTC One M8 soon, and I'm set on that. But I was wondering if something might be possible. A lot of people complain on unibody phones that while the build quality can be fantastic, there is no replaceable battery. So I thought, what if you had a large tray, similar to that of the sim-card or microSD tray on the HTC One M8, where you could pull it out and replace the battery that way. In my head the idea seems possible, but I'm not an engineer either. So what are your thoughts guys? Is that a potential fix to the non-replaceable battery issue with many unibody phone models? I think if it is, that would convince a lot more people to purchase a phone without a removable back since it would have all (or at least most) of the benefits of a phone with a removable back.

IMO, to add a modular contraption to a phone in order to support a removable battery is only going to increase thickness without increasing battery size.  It's not going to be easy like a Samsung phone, that's for sure.

Yes, but he means "replaceable" as in Samsung-style replaceable.

The manufacturers prefer not to give you that.

That way - when the battery degrades, the guy who bought it new sells it on instead of trying to replace the battery and buys another new one.

Correct, I know it's replaceable on practically any phone (if extremely difficult) but I was wondering about non-removable back phones having methods to replace a battery in a much more consumer friendly way

HTC had a design similar to this on the Desire 4G(from At&t). It was a pain in the ass, but I believe it was: "A great idea with poor execution".

Ah! That's pretty similar to what I was thinking. I feel it could be more properly executed on a phablet rather than a conventional "standard" sized phone.
