Hey guys, would appreciate some help with my problem..

I've had a WD Red 3TB drive now for around 6 months (used as a secondary hd for storage). In the past month or so the drive will randomly disconnect (makes that power loss noise).

Straight after the problem when I've shutdown my PC then turned it back on again, it has automatically started CHKDSK and finished the scan without showing any problems.

This has happened 4/5 times in the past month and 3 times in the past week or so.

Each time it's happened, i've looked at event viewer and have seen the message "The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR1, has a bad block".

I've looked at HDTune Pro (and completed an extended WD Life Diagnostics test) and it says everything is ok.

The things I've tried so far to solve the issue:

1. Different Sata Cable.

2. Different Sata Power Connector (from non modular power supply).

3. Different Sata Port.

4. Virus and malware/spyware scans.

Is there anything else I could try or should I just request a replacement?

Thanks.

Hello there,

You seem to have almost exhausted all possible troubleshooting. The only other thing I can suggest is to try and use it in a different system for a while. If it's still misbehaving you can contact support to ask them for RMA. Their contact details are here http://support.wdc.com/contact/index.asp?lang=en

Good luck.

Don't have anther system to try I'm afraid.

Is the issue i'm having common?

Could the power connector on the hard drive be faulty?

The issue is not common, as far as I can tell. It could be a something with the power connector, but it could also be something with the motherboard itself or the HDD. Try contacting our support, the guys there should be able to either replace the drive or tell if the problem could be somewhere else.

Why don't you list down your PC spec. Maybe we can think something from it.

If it is related to power, maybe you can consider of getting higher PSU. But I"m so sure about that yet.
