Help and advice needed please

Go to solution Solved by EpIcPoNaGe,

One more question do I need 8GB or ram or should I go for 4GB ?

I'm a fan of having more ram so if it were me I'd get 8GB. If you aren't planning on too much multitasking 4GB should be fine.

As the title suggests I need some input/suggestions on a budget slime HTPC. The system is mainly going to be used for constant web browsing i.e. Spread betting, CFDs, and Stockbroking, and some media consumption like YouTube and Netflix. It needs to be both fast, reliable and somewhat rugged. The budget is not set but lets see what we can do for £300 to £400. Also overclocking is not out of the question just not sure if this system will need it, and not sure if I can run the Intel G3258 on older H81 chipset without immediate Bios update as I'm not sure if I can update the Bios from a usb.

I have provided a Pc part picker link which should provide a basis of what my current thoughts are for this build. Any input is welcome and greatly appreciated. Also this is very early on in the planning stage and nothing is set in stone, and the ram listed is a place holder for now thinking of changing but might need 8GB capacity as this build will not be for me but my uncle who refuses to not install Norton internet security even though it's really bad on managing resources in my opinion.

AMD build: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/y4LwjX

Intel build: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/ygJbdC

Or

AMD build 2: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/tXcRHx

Intel build 2: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/k83NWZ

I'm pretty sure any of those builds would work for an everyday HTPC. Heck, my current HTPC is running off a pentium 4 from 2006 :P

Anyway, I'd also probably recommend the first AMD build as well like ELSknutson.

BTW be sure to follow your own threads

Desktop: The Bluez | CPU: i5-3570k @ 4.5 ghz 1.296V | CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo | Motherboard: P8Z77 M-Pro | Memory: 16 GB 1600Mhz Kingston HyperX

GPU: Asus GTX 780ti DirectCu II | HDD: Some Random Hitachi 1TB, WD Blue 1TB, 850 EVO 500GB | PSU: Rosewill Hive 750W | Case: Enermax Ostrog GT (Blue Ver.)

Laptop: Razer Blade 14 2013 256GB

Awesome and thanks allot for the recommend and the pointer/reminder on the thread follow.

Also do you think the cooler will fit the case or should I go for a low profile one, and should I overclock it a small amount or just leave it at stock?

I'm pretty sure the CPU cooler should fit the case.

As for overclocking it's basically free performance so if you're comfortable overclocking, go for it.

Ok great, but if the case is and issue then I can always change it for another one, and thanks again for the help.
