Currently have a single ASUS 5870 running in my machine. The fan has been loud since new but as of late is driving me crazy. Blew out the dust but still crazy loud. What would be a good replacement card with equal too or more power. I have it running in eyefinity with 3 24" monitors pushing fairly good framerates

Will the 280 out perform the 5870 by a lot? Old motherboard with i7 920 6gb ram.

Yes, 275% ish. As long as your PSU can handle an R9 280 you should get one.

EDIT: It's actually 56%

the r9 280 is a rebrand of the HD7950 which is about twice has fast as a HD5870 and give you 3gb of vram...this one is a very good card, quiet and cool..you also get a very good price
