Help with my PC build

So I'm building a problem for the first time and have a £1500 /$2346 budget. I'm stuck on the GPU choice, and am not sure whether to get:

Sli 970s

One 980

One 980 and then save up for ~1 year and buy another for sli

Wait for 8gb 980/980ti

Wait for 1xxx series

I've got a 1080p display at the moment but would like to get a 4k one in the future. I mostly play far cry 3, far cry 4, just cause 2, and Skyrim. I would also like the build to last for at least 2 years before I need to upgrade anything.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You could also wait for AMD's  R9 3XX series, but for now, sli 970s are better

If you're 1080 right now, but would like to do 4K, then I'd say 1 980 right now then another later.

I think I might do this, but I won't get the money until March, so I will still watch for any new cards coming out.

If your wanting to eventually do 4k 980 would be your best bet especially since 4k really wont be relevant for another 1-2 years at least to me. Because yes the graphics are better but the severe loss in frame rates isnt worth it id rather stick to 1080 or 1440 till 4k 60fps is reachable without spending $1000 or more on graphics cards.
