Will changing routers improve performance ?

Hi guys, i have an Aztech DSL7002GRV modem, if i add either the AC66U or Netgear R7000 help transfer speeds around my house ? . In terms of range extension would the netgear have the best range extension for both 5G and 2.4 ? Planning on getting a NAS so wireless transfer speed and range is quite important :P current plan is 300Mbps however after doing speedtest on speedtest.net, wireless speed maxes out at 100mbps and averages around 70. Also used a homeplug( something which you fit into the wall socket and plug your lan cable into the device to get a wired connection) for my PC and only reaches 40-50mbps, should i switch to wireless on my desktop ?

I would get the R7000 and connect the PC with Wired to it and your portable devices with wifi. You should get higher speed and range and for you pc it will then be capable of 1Gbps if your pc supports it

Edit: Basically your pc on wired will max out your internet

Netgear is a more reputable brand, I would recommend this, but there is no guarantee that it will make a difference. Also, what you're describing is Powerline. It can be faster or slower than wireless, it depends on environmental factors.

Your 300mbps plan is theoretical. Often you'll find that in reality you won't get that.

Router has to be outside :( and parents don't want a hideous LAN cable snaking around the house, but between the 2 Netgear gets the green light ? How about range ? with my current modem/router, my 5ghz connection dies out anywhere beyond the living room .

The only dofference between a stock router and a preium one is the price tag and bells and wissles. Just use dat ethernet and thats the best youll get it.

Tip: Use a booster and run a ethernet cable through that to the computer.
