Hi guys,

Several weeks back I posted my planned build to get everyone's thoughts on it and you guys were quite helpful, as always. However since configuring that PC Part Picker build (or build in general) I've made some rather significant modifications to the build that I would like to get your thoughts on.

As per usual I'll provide the necessary info to help you guys out.

1. Budget & Location

Well, I think you guys would already know this, but my location is none other than Sydney, Australia. As for the budget, I think it's kinda obvious from the thread title that it's AU$3,000. That's pretty much the max I wanna go. I don't really wanna go over this, even for a GTX 980, which I don't think is needed anyway.

2. Aim

This system's going to be used for video editing, mainly, but there might be some light gaming thrown in if I so desire. But it will be mostly a video editing rig. That's pretty much the reason I'm wanting to buy this.

3. Monitors

I'll be buying two of the BenQ GW2765HT IPS monitors (these are 2560x1440 resolution monitors). This is because I prefer to have two screens the same. I may choose to add a third one down the road, but it'll be just the two for now.

4. Peripherals

I don't really need any of these because I already have them. Although it would be nice to get a mouse that matched my Logitech K800 Wireless Backlit Keyboard. I like things to match, like anyone does. ;)

5. Why are you upgrading?

My current HP pre-built system is 7 years old and is kinda getting slow. Also, being a pre-built system, it is kinda difficult to upgrade it in the way that I'd like to. Plus I just really want a nice new custom built rig.

Alright, well that's that out of the way. Onto the system build specs.

Here is the revised PC Part Picker system build:

I'm buying all my parts from PC Case Gear because they're awesome, nuff said! B)

Additional Info

One major change that you may have noticed is the switch from the original NZXT H440 that I had listed to the very nice and simplistic look of the NZXT S340. I was thinking about going with this case before but I wasn't quite sure on the build quality, but after looking at videos reviews, like Linus', I decided that I just had to have it. If I were to be honest with myself, the H440 did kinda look like a refrigerator and I didn't want a fridge-looking case for my PC since I have to look at it every day. I know many of you might comment about the supposed cooling issues, but I've seen so many people do builds with the S340 and they've been quite happy with it, so I'm pretty sure that I'll be too. :)

Alright, well I think that pretty much wraps it up. I look forward to hearing your thoughts guys.

Cheers,

Geekazoid

why don't u get 5820k x99 setup? Though this one looks good.

Well because my video editing isn't that heavy, but heavy enough to require the i7 4790K and an Z97 mobo. Plus also because of my budget. I believe that an X99 build would go quite significantly over my budget and I don't think that I need it anyway.

Geekazoid, my dear friend, the only thing I would change would be the hard drive to a segate barracuda, much cheaper.

I've seen my mum have so much trouble with Seagate HDDs she's had in her computer and I just would hate to loose important files. I own a Western Digital external HDD and it's been nothing but a legend with how its performed because I've had absolutely zero issues with it. But thanks for the suggestion anyway. :)

...my dear friend...

Awe nice mate! Right back at ya! :D

Just a note on why I've chosen just 8GB of RAM. The first reason is no surprise, budget, and the second reason is because I can always get more later, as I prefer to go with what I need then to go with what I don't at present. I'll add more as I need it. ;)

Yeah, well I'm coming from a considerably weaker Galaxy GT 430, so I think that a single GTX 970 is more than adequate. Plus I've already thought about those BenQ monitors and how many I want. Also, unlike some Apple Macs, I can choose to upgrade later and possibly add a another GTX 970. Thanks for the suggestion though mate. Greatly appreciated. :)

Hey Geekazoid,

That's a pretty solid build. I would also suggest going for a X99 build with that budget but this one should last you pretty long.
If you are planning on adding another 8GB towards the memory, I would suggest getting a single 8GB stick now and getting the other one later on. This way you can save some money now and get the additional 8GB sooner and would get the most out of the dual-channel support. You should be able to benefit more from the 16GB of memory for that video editing work.
Regarding the storage, I would level down to WD Blue 1TB do save some additional funds and, when you fill it up, get a second one. You already have a SSD to put your demanding things there and WD Blue should be enough for your needs. Here's a link: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=770.
I would think of a more powerful PSU as it would allow you to upgrade this build down the road.

Cheers, :)

I just know that my single 780ti does not always do a 100% great job at 1440p, and the 970 is basically the same performance, so thats what made me bring it up

But yeah you can always get a second one later I guess :P

Anyway the X99 build above is deffo the better idea good work @GhostWindGamer

What exactly do you mean? I'm guessing just gaming? If that's the case I don't plan to really game that much, plus even if I do I don't care if don't reach 60fps in games. I know how smooth 60fps can be, but I'm really not to worried. But thanks for that though. Tis most appreciated. :)

That BenQ monitor is only sRGB so it's not really suitable for video editing. You are better off getting 1 Adobe RBG monitor for the color accuracy.

If 1 monitor is slightly cheaper then you could also upgrade to a GTX 980 along with the x99 and have a truly killer build.

Yeah In gaming, if you are video editing then X99 is a must IMO

I find editing and encoding quite slow on my RIG

I wouldn't really consider myself a pro yet so the BenQ GW2765HT is more than adequate for me. Plus

I read TFT Central's review of it and was quite surprised by the performance. Thanks anyway though. :)

I have thought about subscribing to those, but I can't get pass the fact that if you, for some reason, couldn't make a payment.....there goes your video editing software. Whereas with most software you pay a one off larger amount and never pay a ¢ent more unless you decide that you want to upgrade to the newest release. So it's optional.
