I hate to have another thread EXACTLY like this one (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/25780-help-with-college-laptop/#entry327632) but I'm looking for a laptop as I head off to college as well. I'm looking to spend $1000-$1300usd though. I have already done a bit of research. I need it to be portable as I'll be carrying it from class to class. But I want a bit of power as well for the occasional game (I'll be leaving my desktop at home :().

This is the favorite laptop I've found so far.

I like the ssd hdd combo. Can anybody else find anything else similar?

For that price point you can probably get a decent Ultrabook, these are a little bit more portable.

What kind of games do you want to play and what kind of programs do you want to use for "working"?

I should have mentioned, I'm going into engineering so it will need to run pro e and solidworks. I won't be gaming much. I mainly play TF2, Portal, Trackmania, and (don't kill me) minecraft. Ide like to be able to play anything at medium settings though. The gt 760m should be able to handle that, right?

yes a 760m should be able to handle it. Even my 3-4 year old laptop with a Geforce 335m can play most of them on medium settings ^^

Integrated graphics can handle those games decently so yeah, it should be fine.
